Hillard
leads UC Department of Psychiatry
Dr.
Hillard is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill, Stanford University College of Medicine and Duke
University psychiatry residency. Dr. Hillard served on the faculty
at the University of Virginia and has been at the University
of Cincinnati for 16 years. His first five years were as Director
of the Psychiatric Emergency Service.
He
was founding president of the American Association for Emergency
Psychiatry and was editor of the APA Press Manual of Clinical
Emergency Psychiatry. He has published over eighty articles
and book chapters. Dr. Hillard has been Chair of the Department
of Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati since 1989, and
was instrumental in starting University Managed Care, Inc.,
a managed mental health care carve-out firm, affiliated with
the Department of Psychiatry. During his chairmanship, federally
funded research in the department has grown from nothing to
over $10,000,000 per year, and pharmaceutical research has grown
from nothing to over $3,000,000 per year.
For six years he has been CEO of University of Cincinnati Physicians,
the practice group for all of the clinical departments in the
Medical Center. Dr. Hillard was recently named the Service Line
Medical Director of Behavioral Medicine of the Health Alliance
of Greater Cincinnati. He also currently serves as Executive
Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs of the U.C. College of Medicine.
He has found psychiatry in general, and emergency psychiatry
specifically, excellent preparation for dealing with health
care in the 1990s and into the new millennium.
