Summer 2005
Join
an exclusive club!
In
2005, the psychiatric residency training programs at MetroHealth
Medical Center and the Ohio State University joined the ranks
of an exclusive organization within the APA: the 100% Club.
This club was established to encourage residents throughout
the United States and Canada to join APA and to do so with other
trainees in their programs. These programs receive publicity
through articles in Psychiatric News, posters created specifically
for their program and a gift certificate for APPI books and
products. All 100% club programs will receive a FREE online
subscription to the clinical review and self-assessment journal
FOCUS. 100% Club programs in Ohio will also be honored at the
OPA's Annual Meeting in 2006.
The dues are free!
APA
and OPA waives the first year of dues for Members-in-Training
(a $110 value!). Member-in-Training
membership applications may be obtained by contacting the OPA
office.
The benefits are many!
- National
and local organized support for psychiatrists
- Networking
and career development opportunities
- Up-to-date
information, education and publications
- Lobbying
and advocacy services
- Recognition
of those working in the profession (via officer positions,
scholarships, awards and other profile-raising opportunities)
- Ethics,
legal advice, practice guidelines, mentoring
- Professional
liability & risk management services....
- and
much, much more!
- MITs
are the next generation members of the OPA and APA and are
key to its future development - MITs can be influential via
active involvement in the local society, and the APA
- OPA
committees are proactively recruiting MITs - MITs are already
making their views count on the GR Committee and the Public
Information & Liaison Committee
- OPA
committee specifically made up of MITs for a direct voice
on the OPA Council!
Here's
why I believe in joining the OPA!
"OPA
membership is valuable to me because it provides contacts and
information about the practice of psychiatry in Ohio that just
isn't taught in medical school or residency training, especially
regarding the political and social issues that affect my future
career and the lives of my current and future patients. I believe
active participation in OPA helps me to be a more educated and
responsible physician." Marie Rueve, M.D.
